Materials & making
Where are your clothes made?
Every piece is made in small, deliberate batches with two family-run workshops — one in Jaipur, India, and one in Porto, Portugal. We visit both several times a year. Each garment carries a small label naming the workshop that made it.
What fabrics do you use?
Mostly 100% organic cotton, hand-picked to keep its natural texture, and undyed linen from a single mill in northern Portugal. Trims and buttons are corozo, brass, or recycled mother-of-pearl — never plastic.
Each product page names the exact fabric, weight, and where it was woven.
Why do colours vary slightly between pieces?
Our dyes are mixed and applied one piece at a time, never in bulk. Small variations in shade are evidence of that — a feature of hand-dyeing, not a flaw. No two shirts will look identical, and that is the point.
Are your clothes vegan?
Most of our range is plant-based. We use wool in a small number of winter pieces, sourced from a certified non-mulesed farm in the Yorkshire Dales. Every product page states clearly what's in the garment.
Sizing & fit
How do I find my size?
Every product page has a size guide with measurements in centimetres and inches, plus the model's height and the size they're wearing. If you sit between sizes and want a relaxed fit, size up. For a closer cut, size down.
Still unsure? Send us your usual measurements at hello@atelierindigo.com and we'll point you to the right size.
Do your clothes shrink after washing?
Pre-washed pieces (most of our cotton range) are stable — expect less than 2% shrinkage. Raw linen shirts will soften and shrink slightly across the first three washes, then settle. Sizing accounts for this.
Do you offer alterations?
Yes — free hemming on trousers and skirts within 14 days of delivery. Email us with your order number and the finished length you'd like, and we'll send a prepaid label.
Orders & shipping
How long will my order take to arrive?
UK: 2–3 working days, free over £75.
Europe: 3–5 working days.
US, Canada & rest of world: 5–8 working days.
Pre-orders ship as soon as the batch comes off the workshop floor — the product page shows the expected dispatch date.
Can I track my parcel?
You'll get a tracking link by email the moment your order leaves us. If it hasn't arrived within the expected window, write to us and we'll chase it directly.
Do you ship internationally?
We ship to most countries worldwide. Duties and import taxes outside the UK and EU are not included at checkout — your local customs office will collect them on delivery. We're working on a DDP option for the US later this year.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Yes, within 2 hours of placing it. Email us straight away with your order number. After that, the order is already with the workshop or in transit, and we'll need to handle it as a return.
Returns & exchanges
What is your returns policy?
You have 30 days from delivery to return anything unworn, unwashed, and with tags attached. UK and EU returns are free. International returns are at your cost.
Start a return at your account page or email us if you checked out as a guest.
How do exchanges work?
Exchanges for a different size in the same piece are free worldwide. Tell us the new size when you start the return — we'll hold stock for you and ship the replacement as soon as your parcel reaches us.
When will I be refunded?
Within 3 working days of your return arriving back with us. Refunds go to the original payment method and take a further 3–5 days to appear, depending on your bank.
What if my order arrives faulty?
That shouldn't happen — but if it does, send a photo to hello@atelierindigo.com within 14 days of delivery and we'll either replace the piece or refund you in full, including return shipping.
Care & longevity
How should I wash hand-dyed pieces?
Treated well, a hand-dyed shirt will last for years. Wash cold (30°C) with similar colours, line dry in the shade, iron on the reverse if you iron at all. Avoid bleach and direct sun on the drying line — both will soften the colour over time.
Do you offer repairs?
Yes. Send any Atelier Indigo piece back to us for repair at any age — we'll fix seams, replace buttons, and patch small holes for a flat £12. We'd rather keep a garment in service than see it thrown away.
Can I recycle a piece I no longer wear?
Send it back through our Return-to-Make programme. We'll take it apart, salvage what we can, and credit £20 to your account. Details on the Return-to-Make page.
Account & payment
Which payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, PayPal, and Klarna (UK and EU only). All payments are processed securely through Shopify Payments.
Do I need an account to order?
No — guest checkout is fine. An account makes tracking, returns, and repairs simpler, and lets us hold your size preferences.
Do you offer gift cards?
No
How do I unsubscribe from emails?
Click "unsubscribe" at the foot of any email and you're out instantly. If you'd rather just receive fewer, reply to any of our emails with the word "less" and we'll switch you to once-a-month only.

The Craft Behind the Beauty
Each piece in our collection is created using the traditional hand block printing method, a labor-intensive process that requires exceptional skill and patience. Artisans meticulously carve intricate designs into wooden blocks, then hand-dip each block into natural dyes and press them onto pure cotton fabric. Every impression is unique—a testament to the human touch that no machine can replicate. The process involves multiple layers of color application, with each block carefully aligned to create stunning, multi-colored patterns that tell stories of Indian artistry.
A Sustainable Choice
In an era of mass production, hand block printing stands as a beacon of environmental responsibility. Unlike industrial printing methods that consume vast amounts of water and release harmful chemicals into our ecosystems, traditional hand block printing uses natural, plant-based dyes and minimal water. This eco-conscious approach means that when you wear our garments, you're not just celebrating heritage—you're making a choice that honors our planet. Every shirt is a small act of environmental stewardship.
We're honored to bring this centuries-old craft to you, supporting artisans in Jaipur and keeping this beautiful tradition alive. Thank you for being part of our journey! ❤️
